THE DROP
Quicksand just dropped "Cool Guy," a diss track aimed squarely at loudmouth posers in the hardcore scene †, ¶. The band calls it an old-school hardcore takedown in the vein of Minor Threat's "Small Man, Big Mouth" and Negative Approach's "Hypocrite" †, §.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Fifth single from *Bring On the Psychics*, dropping July 17 via Equal Vision †, ¶
- Features grinding bass work by Sergio Vega wrapped in melodic post-hardcore grooves rather than straight-up speed §
- Walter Schreifels targets people who "project confidence at someone else's expense" and talk too much †
- Jesse Korman directed the video ¶
- North American co-headlining tour with Bane kicks off August 3 †, §
THE TAKE
A diss track with actual melodic grooves and Sergio Vega's bass grinding underneath sounds like Quicksand doing what they do best—post-hardcore with teeth and purpose, not just nostalgia. Schreifels even admits "it could be me when I reflect / but it probably isn't" ¶, which is the kind of self-aware jab that makes a callout track land harder than blind rage.
