Trivium dropped "Dead Inside Of Me" on September 16, the first taste of their eleventh studio album *††. It's built on a riff bassist Paolo Gregoletto sat on for five or six years under the working title "Slam" *†**.

"Death metal riff played like stadium rock" is exactly the tightrope Trivium have walked their whole career, and when they nail it you get "Ascendancy" — Metal Hammer's top-15 metal album of this century *. The detail worth watching is the vocal approach: Gregoletto says the screams and cleans were meant to weave into one voice *†, which is a harder trick than any riff.
