THE DROP
Jack White just dropped "Dollar Bill" — a two-minute-42-second percussive blues-rock ripper with three or four distinct guitar riffs § — as the final preview before his seventh solo album *Frozen Charlotte* arrives July 10th *. White wrote and produced it himself ‡, and it's been in the live set all year ‡.
WHAT TO KNOW
- *Frozen Charlotte* was tracked at Third Man Studio in Nashville with Patrick Keeler (drums), Dominic Davis (bass), and Bobby Emmett (keys) — the same lineup that just came off a tour of universally-acclaimed performances and went straight into the studio *
- The 13-track album includes previously released singles "G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs" and "Derecho Demonico," both performed on SNL in April †, ‡
- "Dollar Bill" is described as guitar-forward and muscular with downward cascades of vibrato, power chord chunks, and rhythm guitar work compared to peak James Hetfield §
- The album title references a sculpture series White created — currently on display at Damien Hirst's Newport Street Gallery in London — built from a broken 1940s carnival chalkware sailor statue †
THE TAKE
White's clearly leaning into the raw, frenetic energy from 2024's *No Name* *, and a sub-three-minute blues-rock track with multiple guitar riffs and a shout-along bridge sounds like exactly what he does best. The fact that he and this band went straight from the road into Third Man without cooling off suggests *Frozen Charlotte* will hit hard.
