Evanescence Unleash 'Sanctuary' Out of Nowhere—Tour Starts Next Week

THE DROP

Evanescence just shadow-dropped their sixth album *Sanctuary* on June 5 with zero warning beyond a single in April — the kind of surprise move major-label bands almost never pull anymore. Amy Lee wrote it in the rage-fueled aftermath of Trump's re-election, and she's not hiding from that.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • First Evanescence album with bassist Emma Anzai; produced by Jordan Fish, Nick Raskulinecz, and Zakk Cervini
  • Sonic range runs from dubstep-laced "Rapture" to stripped piano on "How Do I Heal" — they're clearly pushing past the *Fallen* formula
  • "Afterlife" originally appeared on the Netflix *Devil May Cry* series before landing here
  • World tour kicks off June 11 in West Palm Beach with Spiritbox and Nova Twins (Poppy replaces Spiritbox in Europe)

THE TAKE

Lee's on record saying the band channeled fury at "human rights violations" and "tyranny" into these songs, which means *Sanctuary* probably isn't the safe nostalgia play some fans expected. The production team and sonic variety suggest they're actually trying to evolve — whether that lands depends on if the songs earn the anger or just wear it.
