THE DROP
Wage War have announced their new album 'Landfall', out October 9 via Fearless Records, and dropped the title track to go with it *††. Guitarist/vocalist Cody Quistad produced the record himself — no outside hired gun ¶.
WHAT TO KNOW
- 13 tracks, opening with 'Landfall' and closing with 'Silhouette'; 'Sweet Dreams', 'Blindfold' and 'Song Of The Swamp' already surfaced on the 'It Calls Me By Name' EP *§¶.
- The song opens with an emergency broadcast-style alarm before the riff lands *; Consequence hears Korn in the downtuned attack and a Meshuggah-style lead feeding a deathcore breakdown in the outro ††.
- The band tie the hurricane imagery to their Florida roots: "'Landfall' is a song about imminent danger and the realization that we aren't in control." *
- Quistad on the album: "This record had to stand on its own two legs." §
- 'Emergency Broadcast' US tour, October 25 San Antonio to November 27 Orlando, with We Came As Romans, Varials and Cane Hill *¶; UK/Europe follows in January 2027 with Invent Animate and Windwaker §.
THE TAKE
Self-producing after a No. 1 Mainstream Rock single is a flex, and Quistad's claim that they cherry-picked the best of every Wage War era instead of chasing trends is the right instinct from a band that's sanded some edges off since 'Blueprints' *§. A Meshuggah lead running into a deathcore breakdown suggests the heavy half of that equation still has teeth ††. Worth noting: three of the 13 tracks are already out in the wild, so the EP was effectively the first act of this record.
