THE DROP
Orbit Culture have put out a video for a reworked "The Path I Walk" with cellist Tina Guo on it, pulled from the deluxe edition of "Death Above Life" that lands October 9th *, †. The Swedish groove metal crew say they only broke their no-guests rule because of her: they first saw Guo play in Stockholm in 2017 and had joked about it for years †.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Bonus cut from the "Death Above Life" deluxe, the song originally closed the album †.
- Tina Guo on cello, connected to the band by A&R rep Mike Gitter †.
- Her parts were mocked up in MIDI from her own sample library before she tracked them for real †.
- Video shot by Riivata Visuals, who has worked with thrown and Humanity's Last Breath †.
- They are out with Amon Amarth and Soilwork in Europe through November 15th, then Trivium, In Flames and Frozen Soul in North America through December 19th †.
THE TAKE
Reworking your own album closer can be a cash-grab deluxe filler move, but a real cello performance replacing a MIDI mockup on the song that already ended the record is a defensible reason to revisit it. The band's own line, that hearing her actual performance "completely changed the song" †, sets a bar they have to clear. Worth noting they are debuting this the same week they start a two month, two continent support run.
