Lamb of God Singer Lets Cancer Patient Shave His Head Backstage

Lamb of God Singer Lets Cancer Patient Shave His Head Backstage

Randy Blythe just proved once again why he's one of the most stand-up humans in metal. At Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Lamb of God frontman let a fan named Jessyca shave his head backstage in an act of solidarity — Jessyca is fighting stage 4 breast cancer *. Blythe teamed up with the Living the Dream Foundation to make it happen, and Jessyca didn't just get the backstage moment; she watched the band tear through their set from side stage that night *.

But Blythe didn't stop there. During the show, he called out Jessyca by name and led the entire crowd in a massive "F*ck cancer" chant, turning the moment into something the whole festival could rally behind *. The band also gave her personal gifts and made sure she felt like family *. For anyone who's followed Blythe over the years, this isn't a one-off publicity stunt — the dude has been putting his money and his time where his mouth is for a long time. He auctioned off a gold record back in 2016 to fund cancer research, and two years later he sold his Grammy medallion to support Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy research; that medallion later went to a campaign for his sister-in-law battling breast cancer *.

Lamb of God has always kept their fans close, especially those going through hell. The band's single "The Duke" was written as a tribute to Wayne Ford, a fan who died from leukemia *. And just last year, Blythe helped a fan named Louis Fortanelli get to Sick New World in Las Vegas while Louis was fighting stage four Osteosarcoma *. The Living the Dream Foundation — founded in 2007 — exists to connect cancer patients with musicians and sports teams to fulfill wishes, and Blythe's partnership with them shows how much impact one artist can have when they actually give a damn *.
