THE DROP
Joe Satriani and Steve Vai finally finished a full studio album together as SATCHVAI — 'The Sea Of Emotion,' out November 6, 2026 via earMUSIC, with lead single 'Mayhem' already up *, †. The two met in 1973, when 13-year-old Vai took lessons from 17-year-old Satriani — and Part 3 of the title suite opens with vintage reel-to-reel audio from one of those lessons *, †.

- Drum chairs: Gregg Bissonette, Jeremy Colson, Kenny Aronoff, Matt Chamberlain, Mike Mangini. Bass: Billy Sheehan, Bryan Beller, Philip Bynoe, Matt Bissonette, Marco Mendoza, Henrik Linder *.
- Glenn Hughes sings on 'I Wanna Play My Guitar' *.
- A G3 reunion tour opened the schedule gap that made it happen *.
THE TAKE
Fifty-three years of "we should do this" usually produces a polite trade-off record, but Satriani says the shock was that they write in completely different ways, and "that's what made the project so fun and interesting" *, † — friction beats politeness. The detail that sells it isn't the shred roster, it's a teenage guitar lesson tape making the final cut.
