Jay Weinberg’s Creative Self Was Dying—Here’s Why Slipknot’s Contract Kept Him Caged

Jay Weinberg’s Creative Self Was Dying—Here’s Why Slipknot’s Contract Kept Him Caged

WHAT THEY SAID

"Although I was super intensely focused on one aspect of my creative life and happy to do so, like a little part of my creative self, it was dying for sure because this is stuff that means a lot to me." * Jay Weinberg told the Loyal to the Craft podcast that a legal restriction kept him from playing music with other artists for roughly a decade starting around 2013 *. He declined to name the band *.

THE DETAILS

  • Weinberg joined Slipknot in 2013 and was dismissed in 2023, replaced by ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande *.
  • He said he still wrote and collaborated privately during that stretch, knowing none of it would ever be heard .
  • He argued outside collaboration is the best way for musicians to develop .
  • Consequence and Metal Injection both covered the interview on August 17, 2026 *.
  • He's now in Fuming Mouth and released debut solo single "Sandstone" with Deafheaven's George Clarke *; some ideas date back to 2013 *.
  • Becoming a father earlier in 2026 sharpened the push *.

WHO IS RIGHT

Genuinely unresolvable on these facts: Weinberg won't name the band behind the contract, and no counterparty has responded on record *. His firing also came with no explanation, which he says still confuses him * — so there's nothing from the other side to weigh.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Weinberg keeps finishing solo material he's honed for years , with the contract's origin still unconfirmed by anyone involved.
