Stone Sour’s Josh Rand Covers Suicidal Tendencies With The L.I.F.E. Project

THE DROP

Stone Sour guitarist Josh Rand’s side project The L.I.F.E. Project just dropped a cover of Suicidal Tendencies’ “You Can’t Bring Me Down” with vocalist Casandra Carson (Paralandra) *. Rand calls the original album one of his top five all-time favorites, and after being sidelined for over a year with back surgery, this is how he’s announcing he’s back *.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • The L.I.F.E. Project pairs Rand with Carson, a collaboration that started in 2020 and has already released a self-titled EP and a Big F.O.U.R. covers EP tackling Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax *
  • Rand describes the project as “getting back to my roots” — the fire of a teenager with 30 years of experience, leaning into the style he played three decades ago *
  • The duo has five unreleased songs already recorded and an album planned for early-to-mid 2026, originally intended as two EPs in 2025 *
  • Rand returned to playing guitar in May 2024 after back surgery kept him out for over a year *

THE TAKE

A Suicidal Tendencies cover from a Stone Sour guitarist who’s been grinding through surgery recovery and sitting on finished material for years — this feels less like a throwaway single and more like a statement of intent *. Carson’s point about the song’s refusal-to-conform message resonating with her decade-plus of industry rejection adds weight to a track that could’ve just been nostalgia bait *.
