Bruce Dickinson Crashes Billie Joe’s Cover Band, Tears Into ‘All the Young Dudes’ at Comic-Con

WHAT WENT DOWN

Bruce Dickinson walked onstage at San Diego Comic-Con and tore through "All the Young Dudes" with Billie Joe Armstrong's cover band The Coverups. The Iron Maiden frontman showed up for one song in the middle of a 26-track set at the Hard Rock Hotel.

THE DETAILS

  • Dickinson joined The Coverups — Armstrong plus Green Day live member Jason White, touring manager Bill Schneider, and audio engineer Chris Dugan — on July 23 at the Fandom Party hosted by Z2 Comics *
  • He appeared for the fifth song of the night, a rendition of Mott the Hoople's 1972 hit "All the Young Dudes," which Dickinson covered on his 1990 solo debut *Tattooed Millionaire* *
  • The Coverups played 26 songs total, covering everyone from Ramones and Nirvana to Ozzy Osbourne and Poison, and played Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance" twice *
  • The event also celebrated Marshall's new Dookie amp
  • Dickinson was scheduled for a signing at the Z2 Comics booth the next day as a presenter at this year's Eisner Awards *

THE TAKE

Comic-Con remains one of the few places where an Iron Maiden vocalist can crash a Green Day side project without anyone asking why. Dickinson's North American tour with Megadeth and Anthrax starts August 29 .
