Clutch End 4-Year Silence With ‘The Drifter Returns’

THE DROP

Clutch have released "The Drifter Returns," their first new song in four years and the first taste of album fourteen ^*^†^¶. The Maryland four-piece cut it with Gene "Machine" Freeman, the producer behind *Blast Tyrant*, *Earth Rocker* and *Psychic Warfare* ^*^¶.

WHAT TO KNOW

First new music since 2022's *Sunrise On Slaughter Beach* ^*^¶^**.
Freeman reunion was announced in May 2025; earlier plans with Tom Dalgety appear to be off ^*.
The band road-tested the song at European dates earlier this year before releasing it ^¶.
Described as gritty, riff-driven hard rock in the vein of their 35-year run ^¶^**.
A lyric video accompanies the release; a fall US tour runs October 16 in Charlotte through November 7 in Norfolk ^*^¶.

Freeman produced three of the best-sounding records in the Clutch catalog, so his return matters more than any teaser copy could. Fallon told Metal Hammer the perk of running their own label is simple: "We'd rather wait and make it as good as it can be." ^* The fact that they played this one live before releasing it says they already knew it worked in a room.
