THE ANNOUNCEMENT
Soundgarden have played live exactly four times since Chris Cornell died, so a football halftime slot is an odd place for number five ‡. But this one's on national TV with Taylor Momsen on lead vocals and Mike McCready standing in the guitar army — the same pairing that tore through "Rusty Cage" at the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction *, ‡.
THE DETAILS
- Halftime of the Seahawks home opener at Lumen Field, Wednesday, September 9, against the New England Patriots *, ‡
- Kickoff 5:20 p.m. PT, broadcast on NBC, billed by the team as a "Countdown To Kickoff" night *
- Momsen handles lead vocals; Thayil, Cameron and Shepherd on instruments ‡
- McCready also sings the national anthem, appearing for the Washington Innocence Project, a Seahawks Spirit Of 12 partner *
- Separately, the surviving members are still building an album from unreleased Cornell recordings with Terry Date, Joe Barresi mixing — no release date announced *
SUPPORT
Taylor Momsen (The Pretty Reckless) on vocals and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) on guitar, this date only *, ‡.
WHY IT MATTERS
BUCKET LIST — four shows in nine years means every Soundgarden appearance could be the last one ‡. Strange part is you don't need a ticket or a lottery win to see it, just NBC and a couch.
