WHAT THEY SAID
"I don't know what to tell you about that. I don't even know where we are on that." ‡ That is Brian May on the Queen Sphere residency rumor fans have been chewing on for over a year, told to Rolling Stone. He still likes the 360-degree idea, he just says progress has been slow †, ‡.
THE DETAILS
- May told Rolling Stone any Queen Sphere show would not copy the ABBA Voyage format, it would lean retrospective †, ‡.
- He also pushed back on reports he ruled out touring forever: "I never said we'll never tour again." † He calls it a break, not a retirement, with no nine-month tours coming †, ‡.
- May and Adam Lambert wrote together once, reportedly in Nashville, and never went back to it †.
- He scored Masters of the Universe, with Dan Hawkins, Justin Hawkins and Rufus Taylor on a rock version of the Eternia theme †.
- A 40th anniversary Queen: Budapest edition is out on DVD and Blu-ray ‡.
- On the Good Food Podcast, May discussed going vegan in 2020 and his Save Me wildlife work *.
WHO IS RIGHT
May is right to correct the record, the facts show he never committed to a hard retirement, only to skipping long tours †. The Sphere chatter, though, was fueled by earlier comments from May and Roger Taylor, so fans were not making it up ‡.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Nothing is settled: the Sphere concept exists only as a template in May's head, and touring stays an open question †, ‡.
