THE DROP
Gerard Way told the Hollywood Bowl crowd that My Chemical Romance plan to spend 2027 making a record, which would be their first album since Danger Days in 2010 †. "Next year, we want to go make a record, so we're probably not doing any shows," Way said, adding he hopes to see fans again in 2028 †.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Announced from the stage at the fourth of five sold-out Hollywood Bowl shows closing The Black Parade Tour †.
- Last full-length: Danger Days in 2010. Only new music since the reunion is the 2022 standalone single "The Foundations of Decay" †.
- No title, producer, or release date confirmed. Just intent †.
- Way joined The Used for "Buried Myself Alive," and Bert McCracken returned the favor on "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison," after roughly twenty years estranged †.
- The band also dropped "Prelude to The End," an eight-minute animated short made with Lauren Tsai featuring voice work from Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish and Hideo Kojima *.
THE TAKE
A stage announcement is not a release date, and this band has sat on "we want to make a record" energy since 2022, so temper the excitement. That said, pulling the touring plug for an entire year is a real commitment, not a tease, and the fact that fans are already scanning posters in a cartoon for song titles tells you how starved this fanbase is *.
