THE ANNOUNCEMENT
A nine-piece masked band called Arcus surfaced in September with a teaser claiming it came "From the co-creator of Sleep Token" *. Sleep Token then posted a statement on Oct. 18 saying they have "no affiliation with any outside musical project that invokes this name" *. No album, no tour, no release date: right now this is two songs and an alternate reality game.
THE DETAILS
- The "Introducing: Arcus" teaser went up on YouTube Sept. 18 with masked figures, a cavern and a church, pointing viewers to whatisarcus.com *
- Two videos have followed, "Death" with a pop rhythm and "Rebirth" with metal riffing, both featuring a male and female vocalist *
- Nine musicians are credited, but only Soma Leith, Obsidian, Istarion and Eupheryx have aliases. The other five are question marks *
- The site opens on an "Arcus Awakens" screen into a virtual room with an evidence board, journal pages and a coal puzzle *
- Spotify lists The Arcus Collective as writer and producer, with Diego Fernandez also credited *
- Origin and future plans remain undisclosed *
WHY IT MATTERS
SKIP IT, at least until someone proves the lineage. Loudwire compares the rollout to President *, but President never got publicly disowned by the band it name-dropped.
