Thornhill and 156/Silence, Bananaman vs. End It
Jason Ziolo
in this episode. So I'm sure it's an interesting balance to have to be like, I sound like my dad.
I wanna honor his legacy and also be like but I also you know Do you really wanna completely follow in your f father's footsteps and O D, you know what I mean? Like let's learn from some people's mistakes here. Come on. We're eventually gonna open up that Discord to everyone so we can all have conversations in a in a safe spot. Not sure it's gonna be a safe spot, but it'll be a spot.
I'm not just gonna segue once, I'm gonna segue four times. Hardcore is supposed to be the place where the weird kids are safe. A guy in a banana suit, a set list as a bounty, and a crowd that needed 30 seconds. Three banana suits have died for the cause. Somebody paid good money to see a hardcore show in a banana costume. And the band put a bounty on the fruit. Tonight we're peeling this one back.
Go to a concert to be a part of the experience. There's people singing about your emotions to let yourself go to be a part of something bigger than you and not have to worry about all the bullshit in the world. And then you've got this hardcore guy, and they turn around and do the same fucking thing to their own fans. Fuck them every which way. Look, I have never been to a show in my entire life where the lead singer and any other member gets on stage and says,
We're quoting Taylor Swift, obviously, Barker. I don't know that, 'cause I d I don't think Taylor Swift's gonna be mentioned in a rock fan radio. I agree. But that's just me, you know. She plays all her instruments, bitch.
Okay.

And now, turn it up. Get your horns up. Let's rock. Here's your host, Jason. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to season two, episode 13 of Rock Fan Radio. In the room tonight, we have Steve, we have Parker, we have Dave, we have Reed, we have Travis, of course, myself, and Mr. Matt, supposed to be showing up, but he's a little technically.
Technically challenged right now. So he'll come in whenever he wants to come in. Just like you're grammatically challenged by saying myself. that's like nails on chalkboard. Well, we're off to a grand start for you. Here we go. All right. So let's let's talk, let's get into some serious business. So we want to talk a little bit about some changes we're making here on the podcast. And this is actually a pretty big deal. Okay. We are on season two, 13, which means we're a dozen episodes into the second season.
The first season was all me running a radio station over on Spotify in a totally different format. But in season two, we rebooted. We have a text chain that we're always talking about at the cast, where we're always talking music. I said, guys, let's start a podcast to get together and start going. And if you go back and look at our first couple episodes, they're pretty rough. Good good topics, but doesn't sound as well. We were still kind of figuring out technology. Well, we finally got to a spot where I think we all think.
We've got some momentum going. We have heard from other people that they like what we're doing. We're our socials are starting to climb. We're starting to get real subscribers. We've done it all organically through word of mouth. And we're pretty excited about it. So we made a big decision last week. We are doubling down. Instead of going every two weeks, we are going to go every week. We're going to
try and bring the duration of the episodes down a little bit so that they're easier to consume. And we're going to spend a little more time on actively talking about modern news. And in the future you're going to see we're going to start releasing the news outside of the podcast just so we can get it out more quickly and you guys can utilize it as a news source. In addition to that, we have a news feed on the website now. So if you follow our socials, you'll see three or four news articles dropping every day about what's going on in the music scene.
But even better, you can go to our website, rockfanradio.com, hit the news link at the top, and you can use that as your news source to see what's going on in the scene. Future in the future, we're probably gonna make a newsletter. We'll make it so we can email it out to you and you automatically get it. That's phase two type of stuff. And in order to get to that phase two, we have a mission. We're calling it the hunt internally, and we're gonna call it the hunt on the cast here. The hunt.
And the hunt is our hunt to a thousand subscribers on YouTube. We believe that that is a pretty big goal. The first thousand subscribers are gonna be the hardest subscribers we're gonna get. Once we get to a thousand, we're gonna start doing things like building a community where we can all communicate together and talk and get you guys more involved in the cast too to keep on growing this thing over time. So
Thank you first of all for being a part of this and listening to this. We're having a blast. We hope you're having a blast. And please help us out. If you haven't already subscribed to YouTube, go do that. If you're not on our socials, go do that. And more importantly, talk to other people. Tell them you found this new podcast you like and ask them to subscribe. We would really appreciate it. And we're really excited about having the opportunity to watch this thing grow along with you. We want to position this as this is our community, meaning you guys as the listeners too.
And we're actively looking for ways to get you guys more involved in what we're doing too. We started playing with Discord the past couple of weeks and we're using it so we understand it. We're eventually gonna open up that Discord to everyone so we can all have conversations in a in a safe spot and and collect that info and use it for the podcast and make you guys all kind of part of that. So thank you for being part of the hunt. Thank you. Subscribe. Not sure it's gonna be a safe spot, but it'll be a smile.
There'll be a little bit of danger involved. In addition to that, I think we are we're changing the the how we're doing the episode a little bit. We're gonna divide it into parts. We're gonna do things like having the sound check, which we just did. Then we're gonna have openers, which will be you know, smaller segments before our big headliner. And the headliner is going to be the big thing we're talking about for the episode. So I'm really excited to share with you guys what we're doing today. Parker, wanna take us through it?
Yeah, let's do it. Yeah. So we went behind the scenes and tried to try to get this even better than than we had it just because we want to give you guys the best stuff. So we've got a couple different segments now. We got our sound check, which we're gonna warm you up. We're gonna drop some cool stuff at you right off the bat. And we'll move right into backstage buzz, which is all the new news and all the new singles that are coming out. And then after that we got a couple openers.
Fun fun news and notes that are a little bit more than than kind of highlights. Our opener today is we're gonna talk about the banana man scandal at the hardcore show. If you haven't heard about this, there's a lot of different confronting opinions on what happened. Hardcore band called out a man in a banana suit and violence ensued. Unfortunate. Absolutely. Got some strong opinions there for sure. And then we got our headliner.
Jason and Reed went to go see 156 Silence and Thornhill. So we're all excited to hear about that. and then we'll we'll close it with our encore. We'll come back and we'll we'll close out the show. So that's that's the the plan. So we got a we got a loaded show for you today because it's our first time doing this and we're two weeks still and then we're going weekly, right? So we got a loaded show today, which is gonna be awesome. And we got a brand new sub segment.
That we have for you right now and it's song of the week. And this this little sub segment is supposed to be a song that we know and love that's been around for a while and maybe just came back up in our lives or is really really hitting us hard that that we think you should all go listen to. And this week I took it.
Rock Fan Radio Song of the Week. And I dropped Saw is the Law by Whitechapel. We've all been talking about this song in the text chain the last week. I feel like I said it just randomly popped up on my playlist, and then Dave came in and said said some stuff, and then Matt dropped it again. This song just slams and it never will stop slamming. It is an incredible song, energetic through and through. Dave, I'm passing it to you.
Why is this a great song? Man, because it's got it's got the heavy riff. It's got in fact we were talking about it months ago and Jason was saying something like, Man, one of the things I don't like a about the metal core and some of the newer stuff, where are the riffs? Where where are the awesome guitar riffs? And I was Saw in the law has a really good riff. And it's I don't know that it's quite what you were going for, but it man, it just comes in. When I say that
It's not that there's not huge guitars. It's like all these metal core bands with the seven, eight, nine, ten, fifteen, a hundred strings they use. It all comes down to syncopation. And it all comes down to weird timing. And I miss just playing the right note in the groove so I can bob my head and lock in. And so that's ⁓ I've been bitching for for weeks about how I'm getting pissed off at Metalcore about this. So Okay, Boomer. This I would defend myself. We'll we'll let you keep going, Dave.
Yeah, this is I would say this is not a metalcore metal core song. It's I guess you'd call Whitechapel death metal. But this song does not feel like a death metal song. This feels gosh, I I hate it, but I almost want to say like a new metal type of song, but with a lot of screaming and growls and stuff, but just man, the chorus just hits and it's and it's they are the band's from Tennessee and this song is unapologetically southern. And that may or may not be your thing, but you kinda can't help but feel this
That energy and how that's really cool. Like kind of makes me want to be Southern too, just because of how hard they bring it. Awesome song. Absolutely. Incredible. When was released? Song was released in twenty fourteen. Twenty fourteen. Twelve years old. Twelve years old. It's it's old and it's good. And and the thing with this song is, man, they came out with this bouncy riff.
before every other, you know, gent band and everybody was trying to find find the bounce. Man, it hits different. It melts your face. It's amazing. Go check it out. For those of you who are into extreme vocals, there aren't many who do it as well as Phil Bolsman does. He's an incredible vocalist. He does the highs, he does the gutturals, he does the lows. There's wild sounds. He also, if you're interested, he has videos of his recordings of their from their most recent album, Hymns of Dissonus.
And it's pretty impressive to see him pull some of this stuff off. And he'll just do like a casual throat clear like any of us could do, and then bust into this gutter like, my god, how's this sound coming out of this dude? It's really cool to see ⁓ live-ish, see him do it in in person. On on a scale of Olivia Rodrigo to air Alex Terrible, where does this guy live? It's gotta be Olivia Rodrigo, right? Absolutely. I think it's time for backstage buzz. Let's do it. It's time.
For new noise and backstage buzz.
Stevie, you listened to the new Des Rocks album, one of our cast favorites. We actually were on, we actually had Des Rocks. We talked about him a couple weeks ago. We were at a show. He announced the new album at the show we were at, which was pretty great. That's pretty amazing. So how'd the album live up? ⁓ you know, I I think it's really good. I I I really do. I truly think it's a good album. I didn't know we we had talked about it on the chain that the they recorded it live and you can
tell that they did and live as in like in a in a concert scenario, but they did it in an open room. It wasn't track by track using And that and that's awesome because you know that that tells me that they're preparing for the road, right? So yeah, and and they it you could tell from seeing them live that they they play very well together, all all three of those guys. And you know the songs that you hear on the album
Are how it's going to be played in concert, you know? So ⁓ you know, there were sections like you you'd come up to a guitar solo in one of the songs and it it was just like soft. I'm like, what the fuck? Like, I feel like this should be louder right now, you know what I mean? So I almost felt like whoever was doing the sound engineering for the album could have like just cranked up certain areas, like some sometimes like.
Vocals seem soft, if that makes sense. So it's like it's it's a really good album, but it's not engineered very well. You know, it's funny you say that because I'm always complaining about backing tracks and things being overproduced.
And now I hear this Des Rocks album, which is a live sound. It does sound great. It is a good sounding album. That first single rips your head off, the first track on the album. And and now here I'm bitching going, I wish it was a little more produced. And I've said that in the past. Like I feel like he'd benefit from a great production, but that's not Des Rocks at all. You go see this guy and you realize he doesn't need that crap. He just throws down in all the best ways. Yeah, but the question is, would he get more listeners if he had a
Very well produced sounding album that kind of went to the masses a little bit more. Don't you think that would increase his visibility? Yeah, we've talked about this, right? Where where we went to go see him live after and I I had no idea who I was seeing really. I just listened to a couple songs and I was blown away because this guy's got the energy live. And it sounds incredible live. It's it's interesting that he went that way. I wonder if he thought that you know what, like we kill it live.
So maybe we should just film or record this this album live to get that energy. But I feel like if you're gonna do that, because he did say that he recorded it live they recorded it live and took very little breaks, which it does sound that way, you've probably got to be a pretty freaking on point sound engineer to adjust the levels while that's going on. And then you get this right where like, you know, you're backing off the mic, the guitar is picked differently.
Like it's that's an impressive feat to do a recorded live album and feel confident enough to release it. But yeah, you're always gonna have that potential difference between a fully produced album, which I don't think they've ever had a fully produced album. That comparing this to their old stuff, their old older albums or his older albums are kind of rough to listen to. They're not that's not the right way to say, but they're not produced well. They're really
gritty lo-fi almost lo fi looks like something I could do in my basement. And so this is his best sounding album ever, without a doubt. But I feel like there's still another level he's got to go with that. You guys were talking about it on the Text thread and I was like, I need to check this out because we mentioned it before. I don't think I'd ever listen to him. Fifty seconds into that record I'm like, this is amazing. I was really enjoying it. It's yeah we talk a lot about metal and heavy intense music and screaming on this podcast, but
Des Rocks is like just more straight ahead rock and roll that I think's going to appeal to a lot more people and not just I listened to the album this morning and I walked away going, That is ro the Rolling Stones in 2026. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good analogy. Yeah, that's pretty good. Black Keys came to mind. ⁓ Muse oddly came to my mind, but I'm not as big into Muse as as some of you guys are. Maybe more of their bigger hits. But I was like, Man, this definitely feels like other things I've heard, but it's still fresh.
And new and his energy sounds the live show sounds incredible guys. I can't believe it's This guy's a metalhead through and through. And he bought a Des Rocks t shirt at the show. So Yeah. Like you ready for not going, that was enough. Signal that he liked the band. ⁓ Did he buy merch or not? Yes. It is.
That's that's my meter for bands that I don't recognize or don't know for sure. I think the fact that Des Rox got invited on Kelly Clarkson is is a huge signal that he's definitely ready for a mainstream audience. I mean, she's huge. Now I know she's stepping away from the show, but I mean she's got a massive audience. So Yeah. Yeah. And she's a musician, so she can appreciate you know everything he's going through.
Yeah, I I I really think he's one hit away from being a full blown fucking rock star. Yeah. Yeah. I'd agree with that. I have been listening to this album for three days straight. Like it hasn't left my like I've just been listening to it. And the new Sublime, too. But I leaned to Des Rocks just because it's a honestly, it's a better album. Yeah. How's the Sublime album?
It's got like one or two good ones on it. Really? It's like a it's a little bit of a disappointment in the fact that and I gotta give it a fair shake. You know, I I've only listened to it like twice now. So but he sounds so much like Bradley, his father, it r it's ridiculous. So in that aspect, you know, you should check out a couple of the songs. The first few on the album are great.
You know, but then they go into like the waiting for my Ruka type ⁓ songs and it just doesn't feel right. So I I mean there was a couple that I just flat out skipped that they were he was they were sitting there it was like a skit song, you know, so but the new Des Rocks album, I've really been enjoying it. So it kinda put me back in my happy place versus disappointment of the new Sublime release.
Yeah. Well, you know, at least we're gonna have him sounding like Bradley when he's live touring. That that's really what's a plus too. And I just I you know, it is their first album with I I forget the guy's name. Bradley's son. Whoever that is. Jacob? Jacob I don't remember.
But you know, it is the first album that they're together, so I wonder if like they'll be more cohesive on the next one that they release. You know what I mean? So I'm sure it's an interesting balance to have to be like, I sound like my dad. I wanna honor his legacy and also be like but I also you know, like it's it's an i that's an interesting thing to jump to.
O D, you know what I mean? Like let's avoid that part of it. I know. Like, let's learn from some people's mistakes here. Come on. It's coming. Any Huba Stink fans in the room? Jason, I really want to know why you're Yes, old school. Absolutely. That original album's awesome. Surprise. The Right the Dark was so good. Everything after that was like, dude. I don't even I didn't even know they had albums after that.
So you want to know if I know they had the first two. I then I listened the shit out of those and never listened to them anymore again because it kind of got bad. I loved Hoover Stink back in the day. I saw Huba Stink a couple times. They even played the l I think it was the Lake in the Hills County Fair, which is the local town, a couple of years ago. I actually I saw I saw Fuel open that sh play that same show too with just the lead singer and a backup band. It was awful.
I was gonna say, as a guitar player, I've always appreciated Dan Estran because he he plays in a lot of open tunings. He's got a very unique style, and I've always liked that about him. Their sound radically changed by about their fourth album. Their third album's got some good stuff, but by the fourth album, they were really trying to modernize their sound and it didn't work for me. This new track is definitely a throwback to their older stuff. It's not
quite the hubistank that that we all know like from the beginning, but I think they're kind of listening that like, hey, let's go back to our roots. Yeah, tell us about the song, Jason. It's pretty angry. The song's pretty angry. It's a little punk rock, which is not what I expected from a hoobstank, you know, resurge. What's the song about? Okay, before we continue, Jason and the rest of us have a rule. No politics allowed in the cast. What you don't know, perhaps you do
Is that Jason also is known for breaking his own rules? Let's count together how many times he comes close to that line. I believe the song's about a certain person's who lives in a white house on the east coast of the United States. If you listen to the lyrics, it plays right in. But Hubastink has come out completely and said it is not a political song about anyone specific. We're just sick of the shit that's going on everywhere.
I think they're cowards and they should just admit of what the song's about. I think it was said the same thing about ⁓ Megalomaniac. Megalomaniac, yeah. And I think Nimble Bastard too. I think both those songs sounded like they could have been somewhat political and they're like, No, Someone in management said, Shut your hole if you don't want to lose fans. And that kind of when you're a whoobist trying to get fans. Yeah. Back. Yeah.
Incubus at least had a fan base back when they released that in the George Bush era. Incubus used to be huge. Yeah, I know. They still are. And they're aren't they? They're releasing a new album this year, I think, too. Excellent. So man, they've been dragging their feet. I I think they, you know, eight was it was okay. They they obviously did the Morning View re like they remade Morning View, which I personally wasn't a huge fan of the of the the record or the re-record, whatever you want to call that.
Did they reimagine reimagine it, the whole album? No, it it's it's pretty true to the original, but I don't really like the production at all. I think it's it's w you talk about overproduction, it it's way overproduced. That album is a masterpiece. They should have just left it alone. ⁓ and then they did the anniversary tour, which I did see, which was amazing. I was so glad I got to go. But I'm ready for some new stuff. They're one of my favorite bands. Parker, let's get heavy. Let's get heavy.
For Let's Get Heavy Parker. Yeah, we got a lot of stuff. I'm gonna blow through some of this stuff as fast as I can ⁓ because there's a lot of singles here. But ⁓ I just want to bring up I've been seeing a lot of bands combining forces lately. I love to see bands collabing together. It it just I feel like it it makes the creative juices even more juicy, if you will. It's it's awesome. So we got Slander, Spirit Box, and Vastive doing doing a single called Under My Skin.
I'm kind of jumping off the spirit box train myself, but ⁓ this this this song is a years ago. Yeah, it's a little slower, but it's also EDM. It's very EDM driven and Reed would love that. It's not for me, but if you're into the electronics, they lean very heavily into the electronics. That's really the only reason I'm jumping off the spirit box train. It feels a lot of the same kind of re recycled stuff at this point.
They they've been getting better and improving every single like the first time I saw Spirit Box live, I was like, meh. But like every album has gotten significantly more in depth from a songwriting perspective. They absolutely slay as musicians, and you guys are just wrong on every level again. You nailed it. You nailed it though for me. You're the one that's ⁓
And it's not like they're uninteresting, but it's very dark on stage. They just have some lights in the background and like I'm not entertained and I'm not a big metal core guy to begin with. So if I'm not getting the energy, I'm just have the music. It it wasn't for me. I think I think Courtney's starting to figure out her stage presence. Because i I think the thing with Spirit Box is that they came from they went zero to sixty overnight. Yeah. And I feel like Courtney was more better with I wrestled a bear once in those kind of smaller venues and then
Bam stadiums. Not stadiums. And don't fucking troll me. I'll come after you. I I think it took I think it took them all a little bit to kind of grow into their suit, you know what I'm saying? ⁓ and I think that they're getting better. I'll let you guys know in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna go check out Nova Twin Spirit Box, so I'll give you a full report, and that's a big ass stage. Is that Spirit Box Evanescence and Nova Twins, yeah. Nova Twins, yeah. They're coming to Indy too, and I I
I'm I'm gonna see if I can get something day of and sneak my way. Blue dot fever, baby. I know the day of. Right? Yes. Yeah. I might Travis, let's go up to Noblesville and get something to eat that night and then see if we can get into the show cheap. Hey, but the other the other thing too, the thing that hip hop and rap does extraordinarily well are these collabs.
And I've been saying this for years in the rock side that like there's gotta be more collaboration Death Row Records between these artists and I collaboration with Death Row Records, that'd be awesome. That would be awesome. And it's so this this is awesome that like these bands are finally starting to come together and release some badass singles. ⁓ and speaking of the collab Spirit Box, Poppy and Evanescence did that song that was a huge hit. And they've been kind of playing that I hear on on this tour too. So that's it's kinda cool that they Yeah, right.
They do the collab and then they end up touring together, obviously without Poppy, 'cause she's so popular. Can't wait to see her. I think it's just I think it's really good for metal. Mm-hmm. I mean, admittedly that song did feel like Amy Lee and Friends, though. But I still love Absolutely. Yeah. She's the powerhouse. Yeah. I mean, they know where their bread is buttered, and that's okay. But then Yeah. Yeah. And I think that was Poppy. Poppy is the one who officially put that one together, right? I think it's a Poppy track. And I feel like it can have an essence track. No, it wasn't. It was Poppy.
I would put money in it, but I will be wrong. Yeah. Jack White is at the salt shed the same night as the Poppy show. I got invited by two different groups of people and I'm like, no, I gotta see Poppy with Reed. No, you can bail on me. You bail on me all the time. It's gonna be held to pay. No, no, it's amazing. It is except for trying to get in and out of it. But no, no, no, no, no. Just bail on me. I'll go see Poppy alone. That way I can just, you know, sit there and try to get her to I'll be there whispering s things in your ear whenever I don't like something.
All nice. We're talking about Poppy too much. At least it's not at the next. Onto the next. Did you guys hear about John Freece? No. This are we at a random thought right now? I get it. Okay, okay. We have to talk about him. Go ahead. ⁓ man. Next what else we got? Next team up, Archives and Ocean's Aid Alaska. I haven't really heard much from Ocean's Aid Alaska in a while, and Archives is awesome.
And they just dropped a single called Walk Away and it melts your face off. It is brutal. It's amazing. I absolutely love it and I love to see Oceans Eight Alaska again. And then we got Electric Callboy and the Offspring teaming up together to to release Let the Good Times Roll. And this song this song is crazy 'cause it is like just classic Electric Callboy and they it blew up instantly, right? I mean you got you got the offspring and electric callboy and they're doing their thing and
It's a it's a fun song, it really is. You have to watch the video. You have to see the video. Absolutely. It is hysterical. It's over the top. It is dumb. It's this podcast. As they do, as Electric Callboy always does. They always do ridiculous music videos. Everything they do is amazing. It's it's ridiculous how they figured out this formula to do this techno electric, you know, rock, and now they're teaming up with punk.
bands, they've teamed up with other metal bands. Like, they're just gonna keep doing the rounds. They're just gonna keep blowing up. I mean, Reed, you and I just saw them in a in a pretty hefty stadium. And like I think they're just gonna keep like blowing up until they're selling out festivals. It's it's out of control. And I love it. I love these guys. I vote that they make Dexter Holland of the offspring a permanent member. That would be out of control actually. That would be crazy.
So I I like the song, but I gotta say I was a little disappointed that it was not a cover of the cars track. ⁓ You know, actually on that note, what band does cover that song? Powerman five thousand. Thank you. Yes, it is Powerman Five Thousand. Yep. It was impressive. I was about to talk like they're the guys that are in the spacesuits, and there's a guy named Spider. One of my favorite live bands ever. Those guys are amazing. Like go see PM five K if you've never seen them.
Yep. They're playing around here real soon. I thought I'd Sam. Go Sam. It's been years since I've seen him in. I think we saw him at the racine. There was a poster up for him when we went and saw Red, Steve. I think that's what you're referring to. Yeah, I drink a lot, so we're gonna do quick cuts here. Fit for a King dropped a new single, Blood Packed.
It's everything you love about Fit for a King. You know, they they came and punched you the face. And I love to see it. They are incredible. They're a great band. Go check them out. They have really everything for anyone who's kind of into the heavier stuff, right? They've got a song that that anyone can kind of jive to. And now, let me pass it to Dave to talk to us about Polyphia. Yes. So for those of you who are not familiar, Polyphia is.
like at their core, a genty all instrumental type band. I heard about them a few years ago. I don't remember what clued me into them, but they they released ⁓ an album called New Levels, No Devils, something to that effect. and there's a song called Goat, G-O-A-T. And it was amazing. Like, what is this wizardry they're doing? They've released the album since then and just came out with a new single called Can You Feel It? And
People are already claiming they're inventing another genre of gent metal-ish dance gent, which I actually thought Electric Callboy paved the way for that. But the song is really fun. It is definitely dancey EDM, genty. There's shreddish guitar in there, but it's kind of in the background. Totally different take for them, because usually the shred stuff is right up front. I read Tim Henson, who is the brainchild behind Polyphia, say that
Wanted to write songs that would fit in the concert setting, which I would argue their last record, Remember That You Will Die, was not a great fit for concerts. When I saw them touring to support that record, I think they had one or two songs on that record that they were able to play because they had so many collabs and they couldn't have the collabs with them. So I kinda love this new gent dance thing, like, Yes, take me on this journey. This track is awesome. It's on the playlist. Definitely check it out. It's can I can I emit something?
Yes. I can't get into the instrumental only. I just can't and you know what's funny? Like I listen to a way too much jazz music. You like jazz. Like I I'm fine with instrumental, but when it comes to like rock and metal and stuff, I there's somebody needs to scream blah once in a while just to keep me interested. Yeah. Even like Orion, like I I can't get into it. I no I can do it in bits and pieces in certain bands and certain records. Polifia's one that
They do it for me. Steve Bye, Joe Satriani, they do it for me. But there's a threshold you have to reach. But I feel like this is a little different. It's it's fun, it's dancy, it's not like any of their other stuff. They're definitely going through a little bit of an evolution, trying some new tracks. And they've said we want to take our music in a different direction and we want to bring it to be able to perform it live. So and it reminded me of how we talked about Muse a a month ago or so, where the it's almost like they reverse engineer it. Like,
We're gonna play big shows. Let's make music to fit that. That's exactly what it sounds like Poliffia's done here. It's it's definitely worth a listen. All right, I'll give it a listen and then I'll complain about it later. Yes, I look forward to your criticisms. Read it's very honestly I'm with you. Like now, granted, Tim Henson is an amazing guitar player. That guy I could watch his videos of him playing ⁓ all day long. He I've never seen anybody play the way he does. You know.
I think Jeff Beck is probably the only other guitar player that I've seen use the whammy bar that Tim Henson does. But Henson will will put it behind the guitar and then he'll reach back and he'll just tap it. And it's so quick that he gives like this micro tonality to his playing, and it almost sounds like his guitar is crying. And Jeff Beck is the only other guitar player that I know that's ever really done that. Who's obviously an all time great, you know. So that's I would argue that Henson is too.
And then Scottie LePage like harmonizes that shit. Like, my God, they are unreal. They're gonna go on tour. They announce a new tour that starts this fall, starts in the States, goes over to Europe. I've seen them once, really enjoyed it. I'd love to see him again. So it's it's I think that if you're if you're into guitar wankery and maybe and do an EDM and dance, there might be something for all of us. Yeah, I'm And who's opening on that tour? Who's a man's favorite band? Well
One of my favorites is opening for some of the legs of this two ladrones. They are a Mexican jet band. Everything's sung in Spanish. I get it if that's not your thing. But they Mariachi metal Yes. It's so good. Mariachi core. So good. Core. Yes. I've heard some other stuff, man. They're fantastic. They remind me of Puya a little bit. Puya was was kind of doing that back in the early two thousands. But yeah.
Their harmonies are great, the guitar lines are great, good musicians, they do metal stuff, they do singy stuff, they tellget the heartstrings, it's it's good music. So to put those two together, I'm pumped. Let's do it. Polyphia combining these two like not two genres, but it feels like they're combining a hundred different genres here or trying to. It almost comes off a little funky. It almost is like got a little funk vibe to it.
And when I first listened to it, I'm like, whoa, this is this is not polyphia that I know. No. But I got into it, that guitar hook and man, yeah. I I mean it's it's awesome. And I've I always kind of have liked funk funkier guitar. You know, some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers old albums are are a little more funk. And I'm gonna piss Jason off here. But but those albums those albums I I I do tend to to lean towards more than, you know, the mainstream stuff. So
I could I it could be something out of control that they're coming up with here. Yep. I think and I think the whole rest of the record is gonna be like that. I feel like the first song that they released like is is a good preview. What's the rest of this gonna be like? The last one was more kind of hip hop flavored and they did some different stuff with vocalist collabs and that was the whole record. And this I think is gonna be similar. There there's some cool stuff that I think they're putting together. They wanna they wanna challenge themselves and go in a different direction. Man, it the we're off to a good start.
I want to talk about sleep theory because they just released a brand new single today. Parker, I need to hijack this. I need to set this up for you because I'm actually gonna give you some cred that I don't give you very often, okay? Yes, I need to Since I've met you, you've been talking about bands as if they're boy band metal bands. Tell me why it's like your favorite thing.
Last in a matter of fact, last cast, we were even like, what does that mean? And we made you explain it. You gave some cockamami answer. And we're like, okay, whatever. Parker's doing his thing, bitching about these bands that use electronics. Tell me a white. And you you called out two bands. You called out Nevertell and you called out Sleep Theory. I did. Right? I did. And that was two weeks ago. And today, today, Sleep Theory drops an in-sync cover. Tell me.
I take it all back, I was wrong, and you were right, Parker. You can say that again. I take it all back, I was wrong, and you were right, Parker. I was wrong and you were right, Parker. I was wrong. I was wrong. I was wrong. You were right, Parker. I'm just saying that you got that on the internet now, and that's the last time you're gonna get it from me. That's what she said. ⁓ I'm literally I'm clipping that and playing it on repeat.
This is actually pretty wild. We we're you know, we riff wrap in the text chain and then ⁓ Matt drops. I didn't know that this was on my bingo card, and Sleep Theory decides to cover an in sync song. And of all of the in sync songs to do, you know, c like you have to do the the main one. Bye bye bye. What you gotta go through, baby? This is with intention. Yeah. True. Now I'm d I mean
Look, I will give Sleep Theory a little bit of credit here. I did see them live and they do actually play their instruments on stage. However, they have a lot of heavy electronics going on in the background. And I feel like they're one of those bands that if if backstage goes down, they can't finish their set. Because there's so much in the song that is them not playing the instruments on stage and is just the electronics going right. If it cuts out, they just go.
Bye, bye, bye. And they get off the stage.
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Wow.
I'm still trying to think of of cool names, a core name for this. Like is it NKOTB core or like Backstreet Core? Tell me why can we start naming every fucking song that comes out a new genre, please? Jesus Christ. No, we can't like this. No, no, we absolutely can't. Does rock's core? Jesus. ⁓
I'll open it up, but I just find it absolutely hilarious that last cast I dropped the boy band thing. Tell me aw. And then out of nowhere, this band comes out and covers in sync. And I'm sorry, but you look at their pictures and photos, they look like they're out of a boy band. Tell me a why they do I'm just saying like Can we move on, please? Yes. Okay. Then I will stand on my podium forever as
The goat. You got the worthy. We're not worthy. You got what you came for, Parker. Alright, it's time to just move on. Get on with it. Yes, get on with
Get on with it! Last thing here before we move into the opener here, there is a Thailand band that is metalcore, and their singer came out, and guess what he did? He said, Guys, I have cancer. You guys need to support the band and support me and blah blah blah. Well, guess what? He lied. He didn't have cancer. Liar! He collected all this money from his fans.
And he completely straight up lied about having cancer. He came out and said, I'm so sorry, blah, blah, blah. I feel so bad. He's like, it's been so hard. He even said something about the healthcare system being difficult, right? In his apology or something. It was a straight up lie. He was straight up lied, no diagnosis, none whatsoever. He just lied about it. It's been hundreds of money. Yes, tell me about your hardship hardship, Mr. Liar. Right. ⁓
Karma is gonna be his boyfriend in prison and it's gonna be named Tiny. It doesn't sound like any movement has happened for returning money or anything like that. In my opinion, this band needs to return all the money. ⁓ they deserve nothing, and any shows that they are currently on, they should be completely removed from. However, it does bring up an interesting question. Can and how do bands get off the ground without going into debt or selling their organs? That is a question these days that constantly comes up.
And the way this band went about it is the wrong way. But you know, there we've got Blue Dot Fever, we've got all this stuff that constantly comes out, all these asshole organizations that are in not stealing money, but in a way kinda not being fair to the bands, like how how do you get ahead these days? They're exploited. Yeah, right? It's it is a it's an exploitation, is what it is. Yep.
And the the industry has gotten beyond greedy and there's gonna be a day of reckoning coming in, but to answer your question little by little with all these people going to indie and giving the finger to the major labels. Right? Yeah, but you're never gonna get huge that way unless your name's Trent Reznor or something. You know what I'm saying? Like there's gonna have to be a reconsideration on the industry as a whole. It's gonna change. I it's good. You're right. It's there's the the reckoning is coming. And I think honestly I I
I think it's gonna be from the labels. I think like like guys like the Sumerian, I think are are kind of re-representing how it bands should be represented. At some point there's gonna have to be pushback because it can't come from the fans anymore. We we remember when we all boycotted Ticketmaster back in like the nineties and that lasted for Yeah. Yeah, exactly. But they control everything so much that there's only so much we can do. ⁓
And it's gonna have to come from the labels, the representation of the bands themselves. Stop the exploitation and funnel the bands into into the right vehicles to get going, you know? Support local. Yeah, right. I feel like the hip hop industry is able to produce independent artists a lot easier. Like Tom McDonald has been hugely successful. He's never had a record deal. Tech nine has is like one of the best selling independent artists like ever.
I feel like in Metalcore and Rock, like, you know, a lot of these guys, they'll sign deals. They get front of the money to record the record, but they got to pay for it themselves out of this advance. They're already in the hole. They pay for the album. And then of course, if it doesn't sell well, they get dropped by the label. Now they owe five hundred thousand or a million or whatever to the record company like, well, we paid for the record and you blew it all on Blow and Hookers. How the fuck else would you do this job? Cocaine and Hookers, my friend.
And you didn't actually pay for good studio time and the record didn't sell, so sorry about you. And then, you know, they might get they might get one percent of the royalties as it is. It's also interesting what it takes to be successful in rap and hip hop versus what it takes to be successful in rock and metal. So you you can get by by having a massive hip hop hit, right? And never really have to tour on it at all.
Whereas in metal and rock shows, I think y you can't just get by by having a one hit wonder. And I don't know if that's just because to make rock and metal takes more. That's not true. I don't know what it is, but there's definitely a production. There's more involved more people involved for a live show, that kind of stuff. Right. That's fair. Yeah. So i I think it's it's harder, but I think the model might be in hip hop. It's just how do you, you know, correlate that over.
There is a fight between a couple bands going on right now behind the scenes, periphery and fit for a king, actually. We should save this for next cast because they've been talking about it, and one of them says that you can, you can make money doing it that way, and the other says you can't. So we should the next fast. We should deep dive into that. Teaser. They call that a teaser. Next up, the openers.
I'm just gonna segue into the opener, but I'm not just gonna segue once, I'm gonna segue four times because I have prepared four segues to get us into the banana man conversation. Okay. So, segue one. Somebody paid good money to see a hard code course show in a banana costume, and the band put a bounty on the fruit. Tonight we're peeling this one back. Jesus Christ. Awesome.
I want you to know that every single one of these is going in the cast. Every single one. A guy in a banana suit, a set list as a bounty, and a crowd that needed thirty seconds. Welcome to the most unhinged hardcore drama of the year. I like the first one better. All right, let's try the next one. Hardcore is supposed to be the place where the weird kids are safe. So why'd a band turn the whole room loose on a man dressed as a banana? Let's get into it.
That one's too safe. That one is good though. It's too safe. Just go four. Three banana suits have died for the cause. This one didn't go quietly. Tonight's opener, Banana Man. End it. So did you guys hear about Banana Man? About what's what happened? That last one's money, Jason. Money? I am beyond pissed off at this. I wasn't sure if I would be able to even speak about this. Drop tell us what happened, Parker.
Okay. He said he couldn't. Or I can if if you're not prepared to do I I think I can set it up. The there's a band called End It, and there's a man called Banana Man. His real name is Eric. So the singer, a kill, and the bassist Jay, are on stage. And this guy, this guy attends concerts in crazy costumes all the time. Actually, he's he's like Jason just dropped, he's been through I think this is his third suit. They kind of get destroyed or whatnot.
I believe one of those shows where you got the people dressed up. I was in a mosh pit with PB Herman a couple shows ago. And he was doing his whole dance and everything. It was the funniest thing out there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, these guys are doing their thing. They're just getting their energy out and and if they want to do it in a s banana suit, I don't care. Like you're at a festival, it's fun. So not a banana hammock. Not a banana hammock. That would be a little bit egregious. But whatever, you know.
Could you imagine a banana hammock in a mosh pit? No. Yeah. I don't want to be in that mosh pit. Anyway, so end it singer, Akhil Godseed, and Jay Pepito, they're up on stage and they see this banana man and they start calling him out, right? They're saying, Look at this banana man, and the crowd's cheering in the beginning. The crowd was cheering in the beginning, and they were like, No, no, you're not actually
I there's a little bit more detail there, I think, is important. They the the lead singer said, Hey banana guy, come on up here. And like invited him to the front of the stage and baited him into the pit. Yes. ⁓ yes. Yeah. Yes. And didn't tell him what he was about to say next, which was they offered they said, if you guys want the set list, we're gonna give you the set list. We're not giving it to Banana Man. And what he said then is
We'll give this set list to anyone who stroop who strips the banana and told the crowd to go after banana guy. And then the bass player got in there and he like doubled down on it and said what do you say? Said like something like go kill this crowd, kill him for this next song. Yes. Okay, well, first off, that's that's man ⁓ that's battery. So they could have been arrested for that. But I was moving along. I mean, right?
keep going. They could have been. I I did he get injured? Yeah. After yes. After after the basis says, you know, you're gonna die today or you you're gonna get killed today or whatever. Like you're being targeted, right? Like he's still gonna violence for sure. He basically said it was not that big of a deal, but people were using violence against me. And he walked away going, It really wasn't that big, it's more the pull point of it, not the injuries I got. Look.
I have never been to a show in my entire life where the lead singer and any other member on the band gets on stage and says, Go attack this guy in the pit. I have only been to shows where fights start and the singers and the and the other members on stage stop the show to stop the fight, get security to escort these guys out. This is completely fucking asinine that this guy went and said, Go kill this guy.
Whether or not he actually got toasted or not, this is out of control that you pull some guy into the mosh pit by saying, Hey, come up here, and then you turn on him and say, Everybody in this crowd, go hurt this guy. That is inciting violence. It's honestly they should be legally liable for whatever this guy went through. I don't care if he has a s small bruise. It's they should go to jail. And they've been quiet on the thing.
And it's out of control that they're quiet and not saying anything, and it's pissing me off beyond belief. This is ridiculous. Did banana man run discharge? We never do this. You you go to a show to be in the energy and to be a part of a community. I've never felt like I fit in. I have have depression and trauma I dealt with my whole life. You go to a concert to be a part of the experience, these people singing about your emotions.
To let yourself go, to be a part of something bigger than you and not have to worry about all the bullshit in the world. And then you got this hardcore guy, and hardcore is a genre that embraces we're different. Fuck that, we're gonna be who we want. Fuck the police for looking down on us just about how we look and the kind of people we are. And they turn around and do the same fucking thing to their own fans. And then their fans gang up and help them. Fuck them.
Every which way. Plus, how many times is is it in the community, if you get knocked down in a mosh pit, everybody else helps that person up? We don't trample, we don't like I mean, I've been in some serious mosh pits before, but like if you get knocked down or somebody else gets knocked down, you gotta be right there to get him back up and get back into the energy. That's what they did was criminal. And I kinda hope that he at least threatens to press charges. I think that would help get a response from the ban because what they did is illegal.
It is. It's very legal. This band should be broken up from a legal perspective. Potentially the the singer and the bassist need to have prison time, potentially. At least, at least they should get into legal trouble, right? I mean like kill the band. Honestly, kill the band. This band does not deserve to play another show in their entire career. Not not literally just be careful here. When I say kill the band, I mean break the band up. Break the band up. Break the band up.
Are you saying they should not deserve to I am not inviting violence here, Steve. I'm saying break the band up. When I say kill the band, I'm saying break the band up, right? I'm not saying go out and attack these guys. Do not commit violence. That's that's the opposite of what I'm saying. I'm saying break the band up. They deserve never to play another show again. None of them deserve to go to another band. I don't care how talented these guys are.
It is out of control to me that you're gonna go to a s a s a show where you have a fan in the audience attending and you say, Go attack this fan. If you do that, you've crossed a line that you should never, ever, ever cross. And if you cross that line, it's like Michael Vick killing dogs, right? It's the same thing. If he went in a banana suit and he was talking shit and looking to fight people and get into a fight, that's a completely different thing.
But all reports seem to be saying that it was just a dude in a banana suit. He debated. The singer got pissed off that he was in a banana suit and the singer said, kill this guy. Yeah. Their their argument was legit that he was trying to get attention. Yeah, it's a legit argument. D came there for attention, but I think there's nothing wrong with that. Sure, but like you could be like, look at this guy trying to get attention. Ha ha ha ha ha. You don't have to be like, look at this fa guy trying to get attention. Now go rip the suit off of the guy.
Yeah, no, I don't agree with it at all. We are all descending on the festivals this summer in bright red shirts that say rock fan radio, looking for attention to introduce our podcast out to people. If somebody saw that and said you're looking for attention, beat the shit out of these guys, it's the same thing. Where do you draw the line then? I mean, it cost them a tour with hate breed. And so it's like if if you piss off a guy like Jamie Josta, who is, in my opinion, one of the guys in the hardcore scene.
I mean, we all know hardcore bands, you know, their their message has always been tolerance and acceptance. And, you know, Jamie Josta has been a huge influence on that scene. I mean, we're talking about a guy who used to host Headbanger's Ball and MTV. I mean, he's a huge name. When when you piss that guy off and his butt and they're like, hey, you're not doing this tour, get the fuck out. You know, you you essentially have just broken all trust with the scene. So I I'm with Parker, man. You know, we might see some legal consequences, but if if I'm a hardcore
Fan, I'm like, fuck this band. Like, no, I don't ever want to see. Reed and I we went and saw Thornhill.
156 silence. Did I say that right? 156 slash silence. Yeah, man. Like they're coming back into town and I've been pinging the crap out of them because I would love to get an interview with them real quick to just ask them why they picked this name. Yeah. Cause I I went in not knowing them and it did. It seemed like 70% of the crowd there was there for that band. And now after Yeah, it was crazy. And now after after listening to them and seeing them, like no arms by 156 silence.
Has been playing on repeat in my house. I absolutely dig this band. They are fucking awesome. They threw down a live show that was it wasn't as good as Thornhill because Thornhill brought all the production with the lights and everything like that. But one five six was absolutely incredible. And like everybody there was like, you gotta check out one five six. And I'm like, I've never even heard of these guys. And they slayed. So they got a new fan, but then you know, for like two days afterwards, I'm like, was it one five eight silence? Was it one six five?
Slash silence. You couldn't remember the name? No. And it's got like it's got a slash in there. How do you pronounce that? It's like fucking Prince. Is it 156 silence? Is it 156 slash silence? Is it hashtag I don't know band? Like what is it? It's like when Prince went to just a glance. But that band is awesome. And their new song, No Arms, is
Absolutely insane. It's one of my favorite songs of all time right now. They got a new album coming out in September that I'm now jazzed up for. They are coming back into town with say six guys. No way. Really? Yeah, man. No way. Yeah. That's that's gonna be amazing. We're going to that. Who are they? Who are both those bands with? Who's the headliner?
Some band that Dave knows that I didn't chip Chipada, Chipotle. ⁓ Yes, that one band. Chiotos. we're an awesome band. They're awesome, yeah. Chyotos kinda has a Deft Tones vibe ish a little bit to him, right? Am I thinking of that right? How have I never heard of those? I would not say those two are the same. No. No. Screamo, they were the post hardcore emo, but Screamy. But see as well.
But man, I love that band probably twenty ish years ago or so. They went through some lineup changes. That's but that's show is gonna be incredible. Chyotos there with those with one five six silence and then say six. That is gonna be awesome. When is that show? I can't wait. it's on like a s Sunday or a Saturday. So I think it's on the Sunday at the House of Blues, unfortunately. No. So I actually just looked them up. They're actually doing two shows at the House of Blues over two nights. I was gonna hope.
Could they do one show the House of Blues and one at a real venue? Yeah. Cause one of my favorite parts about this show was Reed. We got to we this was like one of the first shows we'd gone to where we were in total rock fan radio mode, right? And so we grabbed our phones, we talked to people in the crowds, we grabbed a bunch of interviews, which I think is going to become our MO going forward. To actually we bought some new equipment. I bought some new fancy mic what are these? You talk into them, microphones. That's what I bought.
I bought some new microphones so we could sound better because it's a little crut cruddy. But we talked to these this couple who were before one five six silence were like, these guys are the shit. It's gonna be amazing and blow your face off. And they did. They're a little screamy for me, but for you, they blew your face off. And they came back and they had bought I it had to be five hundred dollars worth of merch. They think they bought everything in the merch booth. And this is a video of them showing it all off to us.
And what I liked about that video the most was they bought the drum head, you know, the signed drum head. Which is like, that's so cool. And then they pulled out a second one. That's how big fans they were. They bought two of them. It's like we can you can't mess with these guys. Every t-shirt, every hat, every hoodie. They actually bought the stands that hold the t-shirts just so that way they could display them when they got home. Yeah, they're and what they they had to have been early twenties, right? I mean, they were just
Well I mean it goes back to what Dave was saying on one of those last podcasts. Like they they were just the minute they got there they were just ecstatic humans to be there. And the you know, one five six let's say I forgot it again, silence. Like th like it they didn't disappoint him, so that kinda probably My favorite part about one five six silence was watching the drummer because he is a very soft player. So, you know, you could tell he played his other band is a jazz band, clearly.
Because he's just barely hitting the cymbals and he's back there, but they got it all mic'ed up huge and it sound vicious big, but he's just back there being as musical as possible, which is cool. Remind me of the drummer from Trivium actually. He's just like that too. You ever see Trivium Live though? The lead guitar player has a double a double shoulder strap for his guitar. It's so weird. That's interesting. His guitar maybe his guitar is like s like more than solid wood and weighs a million pounds.
Maybe. He said he said something about it. Like he can take his hand I mean, it sits in the center of his chest with the you know double strap. And he's like, it's the most comfortable, you know, rig I can I've I've I've ever ever played with. I think I might be in a Thornhill guitar strap. That sounds incredibly comfortable. Yeah. Thornhill was like I was so bummed the last time they came through Chicago it fell on a day I couldn't go see them. Yeah. And it it is everything I knew Thornhill was gonna be. This band is just amazing.
the record of the year for me a couple of years back when they released whatever that was. Absolutely bodies. Bodies. Bodies. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely blew my mind that album. And their live show is just perfect. It was really good. And they're they sit right on the cuss for me of like screw of of good screaming and not really all just deep throat screaming. They got that like they know when to light it up and when to back off. It's very deft tones ish to me. And
Something about that guy's guitar tone and how he gets those real deep, you know, I don't know how to say the the dirty, filthy, deep riffs. Yeah, it's so good. So groovies are good too. Like you bop to those tunes. They are yeah, they're good beating. Yep, yeah, yep. So they do the heavy singing, it's good. I didn't know they were from Australia. So ⁓ Australia's really bringing Thornhill, Polaris, like they're architects. No, architects is British.
That's British. Yep, yep. I feel like I'm missing one. Well the ninja is Australian and I think they're getting back together. Ooh. Mm hmm. That's that's what the rumors say. There are a couple albums. man, I love that band. They were excellent. The last one was not quite for me, but the ones prior were outstanding. Travis turned me on to them. Your best friends introduce new music to you that you love. Well, even if it's just Polaris and Thornhill coming out of Australia, that's that's that's perfect for me. Well you always keep up with you guys. I mean
Holy shit, I'm getting new music all the time from you guys. It's it's actually quite awesome. Yes. Yes. Thornhill I would love to see Thornhill. Thornhill's blowing up too, mostly because this was the first tour after they did the run with Sleep Token. And Sleep Token is, you know, massive right now. And if you're a Sleep Token fan, that means you're an obsessive. Typically, that's how these Sleep Token fans are. That's fair. And that's a brush that's a generality, but you know what I'm th these sleep token fans go hard.
And I'd imagine they all saw Thornhill fell for them and they all showed up and they filled the Vic. I was actually shocked. They filled the place. It had to be sold. I forgot how weird that venue is with the steer like the different tiers of it. Yeah. It's just that's a weird place, but it's cool. It's old. It sounds good. The bathrooms are like in a cave where you're gonna get murdered. We had the killer seats too, because like we had there was the like there's the stage here, right? And then off to the sides
There's like, you everyone's filling in about I this is a horrible. We were like over here, and for whatever reason, no one was standing there, right? We were 15 feet from the stage and had three feet around us of room. It was really bizarre. And then we stanked a little bit. It was fun. It was a really cool show. And I I can't wait to see Thornhill again. And I can't wait to see Say Six and Silence play in the same venue. It's gonna be amazing.
What are they called again? Silence one five six one five six silence. Slash silence. It could be silence. I I'm gonna just call one five six or silence or one five six silence. One five six silence, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There's plenty of Louisville. ⁓ weekend of the eighteenth. If you're checking close to there. So we're queuing up Thornhill to come back to it and great show. Four stars. Yeah. Hundred percent. Thousand percent. Yeah, wrap it up.
Wrap it up. We're going to the encore. All right. Time for the encore.
But the encore includes a new segment called Posts on Trial.
The court is now in session. Posts on trial. And Travis, Travis got called out in the comment section just recently because of a Kirk Cobain and David Grohl take. And ⁓ one of the guys came after you. And Jason has the scoop on what that guy said, and then you get to go defend what you said and and reply to this guy because this is fun.
I like I don't remember, but you know it's cool. Like I talked about how we're blowing up, we're getting subscribers. Subscribe to YouTube, please. Do that to us that solid subscribe. We will beg, please. I'm begging. But we're getting people commenting on the stuff we post now. We're getting thousands of views, stuff's organically stuff starting to happen. So now we're starting to have these conversations.
With people outside of us. And that's a lot of fun because you know the internet, they love to hate you, right? So people were were going back and forth about Nirvana or Foo Fighters. Who's better? Dave Grohl, Nirvana, ⁓ Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, and Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters. The answer is obviously Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. And wow. No.
my my in my I mean we we all know my position on it. I mean this is you know that's we you guys all heard the remarks. I mean our new friend Ancient Care Lord on Instagram. Glad you're here with us. What a name. What an amazing name. Asked Travis or us or whoever, you're advertising this. I didn't want to listen to your podcast to begin with. But now I'd rather rip my dick off and throw it in a river than listen.
I wouldn't do that, dude. So, of course, Travis comes back and says, be very selective with the river choice. You only get one dick toss. ⁓ You gotta send the trolls back under the bridge, man. You gotta send them back home. So that's our comment of the week. That's what we should call it. I like the comment. Yeah. Amazing. Absolutely it's absolutely amazing. ⁓ Travis, I agree with you. Kirk Cobain is.
Is is ⁓ awesome. Repeat that. But repeat that tone to tone. I said I said I said David Grohl is a better songwriter. No. And Foo Fighters has more bangers than Nirvana and Kirk Coban. I w I look, Jason came back and said that Foo Fighters has so many throwaway songs. Well, guess who else has so many throwaway songs? Nirvana.
No. Yeah, that's true. They don't have throwaway songs. There's not a bad album. There's not a bad album. I mean, is not really I don't know. It's it's a bunch of cover songs. I don't know that that one really counts. I mean That's my favorite Nirvana album, so you can you can just piss off all the way around. You could just rip your dick off into the river. We're gonna have to look that up and I will correct you next podcast. Dude, I think David Grohl could get a room full of people to move.
More times than Kirk Cobain could get a room full of people to move. You're wrong. We should be ending this podcast because now I'm depressed. All right. Well, let us know in the comments what you think. Say if you're on Team Jason or Team Parker, all Team Parker comments will be removed, and we'll go from there. Now what's
⁓ What's up for the next week before next cast? Anyone going to show shows this week on Going to see Godsmack. God Smack? Yeah. How many times have I New drummer and all. Huh? New drummer and I seen him? This will only be three. ⁓ my You You don't seen a lot more times. Do you own a Harley? D do you have a Harley? Do you you know, do you ⁓
Do you watch NASCAR? Like, dude, their debut album was like rock music gold to me back in high school. I love that. I've seen them several times. Yeah, the second record was awesome too. Yeah. So you They recorded the same record like 10 times. Awake are incredible songs. They're so fun. And the Sully's voice is iconic. He's just a dude, man. And they're really good live, too. Yeah.
Yeah, it's gonna be great. We went and saw we went to the record store in college in what probably was the year nineteen ninety-nine or two thousand, probably two thousand. And we went at midnight on Tuesday night to buy the new God Smack album. Taking the cellophane off the CD and you gotta take it off just right so you can Yep. Well, I'll let you guys know how the Osborne's with Ozzy trying to open a t a DVD when they used to put in those shell cases.
with all the rapping and it's like the intro, it's like the teaser getting into the episode and it's just in there for like like 30 seconds cussing at this thing. It's hysterical.
