Shaun Glass — the Chicago bassist who anchored SOIL's breakthrough *Scars* album and spent four decades in the city's death metal trenches — has died at 57 †. Glass suffered a stroke at his Illinois home on May 31 and passed away July 1, leaving behind his wife Michelle and their 13-year-old son Maddux †.
THE LEGACY
- Started in Chicago death metal with TERMINAL DEATH in the 1980s, then joined thrash band SINDROME in 1986 to record *Into The Halls Of Extermination* †
- Replaced Ed Hughes in BROKEN HOPE and recorded *Repulsive Conception* and *Loathing* before leaving in 1998 †
- Achieved commercial success with SOIL's 2001 album *Scars* and its lead single "Halo," then recorded *Redefine* (2004) and *True Self* (2007) before departing in 2007 †
- Formed DIRGE WITHIN after leaving SOIL and recorded *Force Fed Lies* and *There Will Be Blood* †
- Rejoined BROKEN HOPE in 2013 to record *Omen Of Disease* †
- Founded REPENTANCE in 2018, released *God For A Day* (2020) and *The Process Of Human Demise* (2023), with third album *Retaliate* completed but delayed following his stroke †
