Ozzy Osbourne Biopic 'Probably Won't Come Out Until 2028,' Says Jack Osbourne

If you've been holding your breath for the Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne biopic, you might want to exhale — Jack Osbourne just told fans during a May 12 livestream that the film probably won't hit theaters until 2028 *. The script is done and the production team at Sony Studios is now hunting for a director, but with Jack serving as one of the producers, he's keeping expectations realistic about the timeline *. This thing's been cooking since 2020 in its current form, though attempts to get an Ozzy movie off the ground date all the way back to 1998 .

The scope of the film has actually tightened up since it was first announced — instead of covering young Ozzy through the mid-'90s, the biopic will now zero in on the tail end of Black Sabbath through the early 1980s, centering on the love story between Ozzy and Sharon and how they met and married *. That means Randy Rhoads' tragic death will be part of the story, and the soundtrack will pull from both Sabbath and Ozzy's solo catalog *. Lee Hall, who wrote *Rocketman*, is handling the script, and Sharon has already promised this won't be some sanitized *Bohemian Rhapsody* situation — it's aimed at adults and will be realistic *. The production has even cast someone to play Ozzy, though they're keeping that name under wraps for now *.

The biopic has been in development for roughly six years as a partnership between Sony Pictures, Polygram Entertainment, and Osbourne Media, with Michele Anthony and David Blackman producing alongside the Osbourne family *. Jack's acting as the go-between for his parents and the studio, which makes sense given the personal nature of the material . With Ozzy's final concert happening in Birmingham with the original Black Sabbath lineup just ten months before his death from a heart attack in July 2025, the film will carry extra weight as a tribute to the Prince of Darkness *.
