Mastodon’s ninth album *Marrow Deep* drops August 28 through Loma Vista, and it’s the first time the band has recorded as a five-piece ‡. Guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira from The Claypool Lennon Delirium are now official members, filling the void left by founding guitarist Brent Hinds, who departed in March 2025 and died five months later in a motorcycle accident ‡§. New single “Snakes for Dinner” reunites the band with Josh Homme, who last appeared on 2006’s *Blood Mountain* ‡§.

- The Poisonous Weapons Tour kicks off September 16 in Orlando and runs through October 24 at Sick New World Dallas §
- Hinds contributed no music to the album; Brann Dailor also lost his mother during recording §

WHY IT MATTERS
BUCKET LIST — this is the first Mastodon album without Brent Hinds after 25 years of an unchanged lineup, and the band has made it clear they’re processing grief in real time through these songs ‡§. Troy Sanders says the expanded roster feels “reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry” ‡§, but the real test is whether Johnston and Nogueira can fill the creative space Hinds left behind or if this becomes a different band entirely.
